Jessica and the order of mages bonus information!
Jessica is the first book in a collection meant to provide a fresh take on magic and how it might have existed in a world like ours.
Her story marks the first of several that are in the same universe, and continue the story of existence. Through these stories, you will learn about the creation of Jessica’s world, the creation of people in her world, and the purpose people have in her world.
Upcoming stories include the story of Cannon the righteous pirate, Domino the post-apocalyptic detective, and Veronica the galactic scientist.
Special thanks to:
Mark Hanna, my dad, deserves the biggest special thanks. He has been the biggest driver of my publishing since day, one both financially and emotionally. I would not have published anything without his support, and I am very grateful to have a dad like him.
Philip Athans spent months of his life hammering ‘Jessica and the Order of Mages’ into what it is today. My dad ensured I would be able to publish, and I have Philip to thank for presenting something readers would enjoy. He taught me a tremendous amount about story structure, how to present scenes in a more emotional way, and how to bring life to the characters. I am excited to continue working with Philip on my future projects.
Kevin Minor and his brothers are responsible for the artwork for the book, and Kevin is also a career mentor for me. He and his brothers published the comic book ‘No Rest for the Wicked’, and he has helped me with some ideas for marketing Jessica and the Order of Mages.

The language is Adamic, which is a code based on Latin. The idea is this would be the language spoken by Adam of the creation, as the first language would be the one that has ties to magic.

The incantations force the mind to feel emotions, and those emotions direct the magical powder. In the world of Jessica, the mind is used to feeling some coinciding emotions at once, so some spells can be used readily without practice. As the spells get more complicated, they require more emotions, thus increasing the likelihood of experiencing conflicting or unrelated emotions. The mind rejects the forcing of many emotions at first, more so when it sees them as unrelated. The result is an all-encompassing feeling of the forced emotions. As the mind becomes more used to the forcing of emotions, the effects lessen, and the magic powder usage becomes more efficient. The powder is made of transient matter, which can draw power from other dimensions. When charged by emotions, it reacts and draws fourth the necessary energy to employ it as directed, and is used up in the process. The pronunciation is important for the emotions to work, and the user’s past emotions felt through life experiences can affect the level and ease of use of different magics.

Alfred is a complicator made by the grand creator. The grand creator is completely omnipotent, and completely morally just. This led to the creation of many perfect, yet uninteresting worlds. Like a book with no conflict, they left the creator bored. To remedy this, the grand creator chose to act through intermediaries to limit the omnipotent nature, and then introduced complicators with the purpose of keeping the world interesting. Alfred’s power comes from his divine nature. In the world of Jessica, divine means that the individual’s body has transient matter flowing through their veins, allowing them to draw and utilize energy from another realm.

In the world of Jessica, the Mayan civilization advanced to the point of utopia, and was considered one of the few human cultures to be pure. The fates informed Gabriel of the coming invasion by conquistadors, and he sought to preserve the Mayan people. He had Alfred teleport all of the righteous to Eden, leaving behind only those few who had engaged in immortality magic and were barred from a favorable afterlife. Those left behind became the Cimi, and their goal was continued existence to avoid their cursed fate upon death. Alfred then distorted the archeological evidence in the area to obscure what would otherwise have been a blueprint for a pure civilization.

In the world of Jessica, transient matter has a similar property to quantum particles in that it reacts differently when everything is known about it. In Alfred’s case, he has selected bits of knowledge relating to transient matter usage and purged them to ensure he isn’t changing the usage. This lack of measurement is known as faith. The way the mind of a mortal connects to the soul is a similar process, and more fragile. If a person learns too much about the nature of their connection, too many of the connections could end up responding the wrong way and destroy the individual’s connection to their soul.
